What is one trait you look for in an interview candidate?
Candidates who are driven and passionate about their work and future often project themselves confidently and are able to better articulate
their achievements and goals. This allows the organisation to better ascertain if the candidate is the right fit for the intended role. Importantly, it also allows the organisation to engage the candidate and find out how his/her aspirations can be supported by the organisation as well as assess if these are aligned to the growth opportunities and plans that the organisation has over the long term. Remember that organisations hire for attitude, not just aptitude. Possessing drive and passion are fundamental to demonstrating a keen and positive attitude. A track record of delivering superior results also highlights the potential that the candidate possesses for success in the organisation.

What are some of your personal traits which you think has led to your business success?
As the PwC Singapore Human Capital Partner and an Assurance Partner, the ability to multi-task and ability to assume multiple roles is pretty much a prerequisite. My strong organisational skills have helped me to plan ahead and anticipate the challenges ahead. What is the one thing you look out for in an interview candidate?
I pay attention to candidates’ attitudes and mindsets, which are reflected in the way they answer competency-based questions that require them to relate real-life experiences and how they manage such situations; for example: “What is one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make at work, and how did you handle it?” It is a challenge to get to know a person very well from an interview, so the interview is often conducted by a panel of people, in order to gain a better appreciation and assessment of each candidate.

What is your one trait which you think has led to your career success?
A persevering attitude that never gives up but seeks to find a solution to every problem has helped me in my career. I started as a Marketing Manager and over the years, it is this belief in perseverance that has brought me success in my career and helped me to reach my current position, leading the Canon consumer products marketing and sales team in Singapore.
